COMPUTER TALK

Computer Talk is a creative collaboration between Reeps One (beatboxing) and Synthestruct (visuals). The sound was composed by Reeps One using only his voice as an instrument, while the geometric shapes were used to embody the personality of these sounds in visual form. Shapes were placed individually, frame by frame, based on how I see the music in my head spatially, and visually, with different shapes, size, and visual weight for each corresponding sound.
While many projects I’ve created focus on visualizing sound through cymatics (physical sound vibrations) or other programmed audio-responsive visualizations, the visual portion of this project allowed me to create and place each geometric shape exactly how I saw it in my mind. This experience of doing so gave me the opportunity to study interesting connections between sounds and shapes experienced simultaneously, as well as being able to directly create what I saw in my own mind as the source that motivated each decision (nothing was arbitrary).
Bonus: If you like a little challenge, see if you can figure out the significance of the black and white bars in the video. (Hint, they are more than just shapes)
